Columbia University data science post-grad in search of exciting opportunities with an ambitious firm.

Experience

Aug. 2017 - Current

Statistics Research for Dr. Jonas Hjort. (Columbia Business School)

Conducted data analysis on a project studying the Nairobi Stock Exchange (NSE). Utilized high dimensional fixed effects models, diff-in-diffs, natural language processing, time-series regression, and model identification for causal inference. Programming in Python, Stata, and UNIX.
The NSE paper is due to be submitted to the American Economic Review or the Quarterly Journal of Economics in April 2019
Co-authoring a paper on immigrations and economic outcomes in South Africa. The paper involves experimenting with clustering methods to create synthetic controls and get unbiased estimates of the effect of labor supply shows on economic outcomes.

Statistics Research for Dr. Bruce Kogut (Columbia Business School)

Utilized network theory, machine learning techniques, including Poisson matrix factorization, and Bayesian networks, to create a predictive model for identifying social enterprises.Programming in Python and R.
Worked on several models comparing Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) ratings from different originators, and estimated cross-sectional and temporal correlations.

Statistics Research for Dr. Paul Lagunes (School of Intenational and Public Affairs)

Utilized statistical techniques including survival analysis for two field experiments in New York City and Peru.
Performed quantitative and qualitative checks for spillover and displacement effects. Programming in R.
Jun. 2015 - Aug. 2017

Data Research Associate - Signalling, Shame, and Silence

Randomised control trial with Dr. Arun Chandrasekhar (Stanford), Dr. Benjamin Golub. (Harvard), and Dr. He Yang (Harvard) on shutdown in social learning.
Conducted data analysis on experimental data to draw causal inference. Analysis included power and sample size detemination, diff-in-diffs, and network models. Sfotware used includes Matlab and Stata
Created, tested and optimzed various surveys, both digital and paper, for experiment measurement. The digital programming was done in SurveyCTO/OpenDataKit
Hired, trained, managed, and co-ordiated team of 15 surveyors.

Senior Data Research Associate - When Less is More.

Randomised control trial with Dr. Abhijit Banerjee(MIT), Dr. Emily Breza(Harvard), Dr. Arun Chandrasekhar, and Dr. Benjamin Golub on information delivery.
Conduted analysis on Indian Demonitization Scheme of 2016 and information delivery mechnisms on policy changes in rural areas. All coding was done in Matlab and Stata.
Co-ordinated team of over 50 local surveyors over 2 months in a vast study.
Aug. 2014- May 2015

Undergraduate Research Associate for Dr. Martin Saavedra

Researched health, education, and labor economics culminating in a paper on Early Life Disease.
Conducted data mining and literature review using databases including IPUMS and ICPSR.
Winters 2015, 2014

Investment Intern at The Riverside Company (Private Equity)

Worked with Micro-cap Fund II, doing due diligence on potential acquisitions. Utilized industry economic analysis to study prospects for organic growth.
Applied proprietary models, and spoke with industry experts to value various acquisitions.

International Business Intern with USG Corp. (Materials Manufaturing)

Worked with the product and supply chain teams to ovberhaul the systems database, and assisted in optimizing supply chain operations in the Midwest.
Primarily use Oracle DB, MS Excel, and SQL.
